Seeing – Observing – Perceiving (Parshas Tazria)
Listen

Title -SEEING – OBSERVING – PERCEIVING

Parsha(s) –  Tazriah

Type – Hashkafa/Parsha

Year – 2013

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson were on a camping trip. In the middle of the night, Holmes awoke and nudged his faithful friend. “Watson, look up at the sky and tell me what you see.” Watson replied, “I see millions of stars.” “And what does that tell you?” asked Sherlock. Watson pondered for a minute. “Astronomically, it tells me that there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets. Astrologically, I observe that Saturn is in Leo and therefore I deduce that the time is approximately a quarter past three. Theologically, I can see that God is all powerful and that we are small and insignificant.” “What does it tell you, Mr. Holmes?” Holmes was silent for a moment, then spoke: “Elementary Watson you fool, someone has stolen our tent!” Not all that one sees does one observe and not all that ones observes, does one necessarily perceive! When the Metzorah presents himself, the Kohen must see, observe and beyond that the Torah charges him to also perceive! But the lesson of the Kohen is a lesson for us all, guiding and directing how we see, focus and properly shape our perceptions.
